Sudden heart death can be the cause of premature death in infants and young children and young adults and is often a tragic event occurring in apparently healthy individuals. A medico-legal autopsy does not always reveal the cause of death and a molecular autopsy (post mortem genetic screening) may in such cases contribute to clarifying whether death was caused by a hereditary heart disease. The purpose of this study is to examine pathogenic mutations in a cohort of sudden unexpected deaths in individuals suspected to suffer from hereditary heart disease and subjected to autopsy.
